recommend me a 10ft pull rotary cutter

what brands should i be looking at for a good quality roatary cutter? probly gonna have to buy used to be able to afford one.

i have found a used 2004ish john deere mx10 local for 3500 that looks really good, i have read several people with gearbox troubles on these?

have a dealer nearby that can get me a brand new tennessee river implements (TRI) mower for 4500. he says they are built really well. i have heard good reviews on there smaller mowers but havent really seen any for the 10ft pull behinds. i do notice in the pictures they dont have a carrier bearing on the pto shaft. is that a bad thing, or not that big of a deal?

i dont think im gonna find any others around this price new, 4500 would be my max i would spend, but would rather stay around 2500-3500. problem with used is they probly done gonna be wore out.

does anyone have any experience with the TRI mowers?

I have an old Sidewinder pull type 10ft wide cutter, its been tough as a nails and given me great service and its been worked hard cutting some tough trees at times.

I shopped for a long time to find a used bat-wing type mower that I could afford. During that time of watching craigslist and the local sales, I noticed that I saw a lot of 10' mowers for sale. Many of them appeared to be fairly new and in good shape. Often on craigslist, there would be a comment that the owner had upgraded to bigger mower, which means they went with a bat-wing. It makes me think that people are not happy with them, I assume that they must scalp the ground pretty bad since they are so wide that they can't follow the ground contours like a bat-wing can.

must be complete opposite here i see 10 to 1 batwings for sale vs rigid pull behinds. a batwing would be nice but i have hills and already on the low end of hp to pull it so im gonna stick with a 10ft. i can good looking batwings in my budget way more often than 10fts

Bushhog brand has some of the best gear boxes put also come with a high price tag.
I bought a used Howse 10 ft pull type mower many years ago that I mowed with for several years until the deck and gear boxes wore out. I replaced it with another used Howse that I still have but did have to rebuild the outboard gear boxes.
Purchased a Rhino 15 ft batwing 3 years ago so it does most of the pasture mowing now.

Check out Land Pride, they offer 3 weights. We got a 8 foot duel spindel Heavy and is well built, but
pricey. Supposed to be able to mow 3 inch brush, so far, If I can run over it it will get cut. I would
probably get a mid-weight if I had it to do over.

I just bought a JD MX10 this year. I downgraded from a JD 15 ft batwing. I am getting old, bad back, and could not hook up or unhook the batwings PTO without help. I really like the MX10. Very easy to hook up, fast through gates, scalping has not been a problem. I am really glad I made the switch. I have not had it long enough to know reliability. I am mowing pastures, not bushhogging little trees.

Look for the 10 footer that is 2/3 of a bat wing rather than a 10 ft. rigid. You can get closer under trees, ans closer to ditches. A good designed unit will be able to fold the wing without disconnecting the wing drive (the wing drive goes from center to side at 45+ degrees).

The 10 ft off set your describing has a large counter weight on the left side to balance the right wing, mower is big and weighs as much as a 15 ft, still takes a good sized tractor to handle the weight.

They do make a lighter 12 ft bat wing for smaller tractors, I'd like to have one but not many on the used market and the few I've found are above my price range.

Let me add that I really like the design of the MX10 that allows me to wash it off after use easily and quickly, not a lot of corners and boxings to catch debris. The hitch is very easy to use and the PTO carrier is easy to hook up. Only one hydraulic line.
