I have a 2-14 IH #8 trip plow and it has a new 6-16 furrow tire
but needs new land wheel tire. Should I go with 8-16 or 7-16?
I know land wheel tire should be bigger but i don?t know how
much bigger. Thanks

This is the No.4 that I restored last summer. I bought new reproduction 6.00-16 Coker's to match what was on it.

You want the tires the same SIZE so the plow is level, but you may want different tread patterns if you have a trip lift. M.E. Miller Tire in Wauseon OH I think carries traction tread tires either ND (non directional) Military, or bar tread like R1 rear tractor tires. I've also bought bar tread 6.00-16 tires for my Rooster Comb lift Oliver plows from Tyres International in Cleveland.

The land wheel tire does NOT have to be bigger than the furrow tire. And you need not have any "traction tire" on that side, either, if your springs have enough tension.

When those plows were built, after WWII, rubber tires were hard to get for several years. If a farmer ordered a new plow and wanted rubber tires, the plow would come with just rims. The dealer used whatever he had for old tires or he told the farmer to bring in a couple tires that would fit. That is why, to this day, you can still find an old plow with tires that do not match.

You can use a larger tire on the land wheel side than furrow side just have to adjust the lever to get it level a 7:50x16 on land wheel will work OK on most plows with a 6:00x16 on furrow side.
