ih corn picker

Anyone have any info or experience with the ih 2pr corn pickers? Years built, popularity, what tractor model in the ih line the picker was matched to? I bought one a couple years ago and use it lightly on a couple acres, I enjoy playing with it and it seems to work fine but their are some things I'd like to fix up on it, I don't see any around except for some pics on the internet which are only a few. Thanks in advance.

My dad bought a 2 row, New Idea,i think in 1949,so cant speak to you, about the IHC brand, but he always pulled it with the H or M. Everybody wanted him to pick for them, if he got in too a field with Kochi, years ago we called it Tumblweed,it pulled hard, had to use the M then. He later bought a second one, the owner had put rubber rollers in the husking bed, and used his for parts,But in 1962 he bought a self propelled combine, so that was kinda the end of cob corn at out place!

We had a 2 PR when I was growing up. If I remember correctly, I believe Dad pulled it with our 560. We also had a 350 Farmall and a UB Moline. It's quite possible that those may have been used on it also at one time or another.

I've got a 1-PR and just finished picking about 3 acres with it. A 2-PR is probably the same except adding another row and maybe the husking bed is a bit bigger. I found a manual for mine at Binder books so they might have one for yours. It doesn't take much horsepower to run the old pickers - 1 or 2 row. I've used my H on mine years ago but now use my M. If you have hills controlling the outfit with a load of corn behind it is the more important issue for tractor size or getting through mud. We had such a dry year this year even with the recent rains there wasn't any mud. I've never seen much for 2 row pickers around as I think tow behind pickers were getting obsolete buy the time they went to 2 rows.

Dad bought a #24 2 row mounted picker after one year using a 1 row Woods Bros. He first used it on a 48 H like I have with me now. It was too little to pull the picker and a box iron wheel wagon loaded with corn, so he bought my uncle Ralphs 41 M, and didn't have any more trouble with it.

Don't ever remember seeing an IH pull type of picker so know nothing about them. New Idea, Oliver and Moline were the popular pickers here and the Moline only in the 2 row model. Not saying they were not good, just seemed dealers bust not have sold them in this part of country. Were more G.I. or General Implement than IHC. And the G.I. were only a 1 row picker. Only a very few 2 row pull type pickers were ever around here. Got an Oliver 2 row pull type after the JD mounted picker gave out but then we had the corn head on combinre to open fields. Next door neighboe had a MM 2 row with the side delivery elevator but don't remember how he opened his fields. Later a couple of NI

We run a 1pr, similar just one row. according to c.h. wendel's 150years of IH. The 2pr was made 1953-74, with around 1500 units made. That being said, Tractor match up would be anything from that span(as in Super letters till 66 series), but pull type will go on anything with enough power to pull and run it(deere, Kubota, oliver.............).
