I'm rebuilding and old M1 plow my moldboard is cracked at one of the holes in three directions. Can I weld this I know it's hard and arc welding would crystalize it. can I gas weld it or have it annealed before welding and then reharden it or does anyone have a good one I can buy.

I bought this M plow that was worn out. Converted it to a 3 point and welded in steel plate using 7018 AC rod with my Lincoln 225 welder.
If you have cracks, I would drill a small hole at the end of the cracks and weld it with 7018 and do just about 1/2 inch at a time and let it cool between welds.

Is it in a spot that is wore thin? That is normal in a place like that Just arc welder set so you do not burn thru and then take a plate and lay over it and weld it on same way to give a wear surface. And you are not going to be plowing that many acres with it to worry about the plate wearing out. If not going to be plowing with it just weld up the cracks. But it will be thin enough that the flat head plow bolt will have the square part above the surface of the moldboard. I just use a cariage bolt in that kind of a spot. I am not that good of a welder so have had them warp on me. Still workable tho.
