Farmhand Bale Sled

Been looking for a way to speed up square baling. Bale a lot of smaller patches where I don't have room to pull a wagon.
Bought this Farmhand bale sled to try. It pulls behind baler and is tripped manually leaving about 6-8 bales in a bunch.
Looks like I need to straighten the rods the bales ride on, but otherwise good shape.
Anyone know anything about these things?

I have or had one. It?s out at my inlaws. Couple
problems I had were it would miss the bales when
you turn and the bales get scuffed up from dragging
them. In heavy hay, it isn?t bad. Light hay they look
pretty tough.

thats my problem.. I bale about 2000 bales a year.. I have a small 3 acre and 4 acre place behind my folks place that
the bale wagon is just not going to work.. those areas yield about 175 bales so I figure out of the 2000 I can manually
stack that.. at least for now anyway..other then that bale wagon to shed or bale wagon to trailer..

Bought one this past spring for a hunnerd bucks. I like it. I took the pickup off my NH bale wagon and now just drive up to the piles and pitch them on the platform that places the bales onto the first table. I can usually put in ten or a dozen bales. I tied the chain up short enough that I can back up just enough to take the pressure off the tailgate. Only jump off the tractor five or six times per load, not twenty or so like before. A time and swearing saver for me.

Somebody made one by hand out of 23 X 6s. He had 3 or 4 at the front to stand on. over the ones turned on edge. I suppose the sled was around 8X8. Had likely 4 turned up on edge as runners. hed stack either 8 or 15 bales on the runners. He had a pry bar, and the front bales were stacked sideways. hed ram the pry bar into the ground, and the bales would slide off slick as snot. I hated it. Didn't like being in one place when there was no wind blowing. Felt like I could get some breeze by moving forward

Yeah i bought a new, year's ago, straighten the rod's and make sure the gate works [shut's when it's suppose too.] you will get about7-8 bales in there !

I know I would like to find one to try for cheap. If all else fails then I plan to build one out of scrap I have lying around if only I could ever find the time.

Is there an attachment for front end loaders that will pick up a sled load of bales at one time for easy stacking?

I don't know on that as in my part of the country the sled does NOT make any sence, would not be used.

No that was later.there was a guy by the name of Jensen, he was a school teacher, in Fredrick South Dakota, he built one, that you could pick up the bales, i think it was 10, laying flat with the attachment on the loader, His was painted blue i think, it worked pretty good, they would use them to stack em on a semi, and they looked straight, when you got done loading, because you could push them a little with the front of the attachment, and straighten them up!

You got to put extra wedges in the bale chamber, if you have loose sloopy bales, nobody wants a loose bale,i had 1 Farmhand, and 1 jobber one,was about twice as big, once in a while, when turning one would fall off the front, and not in the basket, anyway u cut it, it was better than single bales laying out there !!

Just a thought and I am not tring to be a smart A. You could find a couple of Teenage guys or girls with a pickup truck to help and do all the square bales you want and never get off the tractor. I did this many many years as a kid both for pay and for room and board :D . Like i said just a thought.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like this will be a big help to me.
It's pretty much a 2 man operation, with my 77 year old dad and I. I'm 45 and with 7 & 9 year old boys, don't have much time.
Always looking for ways to make this easier, and would love to grow my boys into a small scale hay business.

Pic link to a bale sled of unknown brand but they all pretty similar whether store bought or home made in that the operator simply pulls the trip rope to group a random pile 0f about 8 bales together in the field for easy pick up later. (Likely have to copy and paste the address to your browser)

Alternatively here is a utube video link of one in action. (again likely have to copy paste a link to your browser

And for the guy asking if there is one you can attach to a loader here is a low tech one I might opt to build instead by Rocky Mountain Bale Sweep either for a skid load or tractor loader. Rock Mountain has several videos on youtube but most are on skid steers. this video shows one on a tractor. No moving parts so easy to make.

(quoted from post at 03:01:23 10/07/18) I would part with mine for $75. Its out at Pueblo
Colorado.

Would love to have it but my fuel and time costs from Southwest Ohio would no longer make that an inexpensive implement for me.
