Manure Spreader

Stupid question, but how does a ground driven only manure spreader work when you pick up a load, but need to transport it to the field before unloading? Is there a mechanism there to keep from spreading while the wheels are rolling? Are those levers I see in the front the levers that operate that mechanism?

One of the levers lowers a chain down onto a drive gear and runs the beaters. The other lever engages the apron and controls the speed of the apron.

On my JD Model N, the PTO lever runs the slingers and the lever for the floor sweeper is accessible from the tractor seat.....right where you can WHACK
your head on it every time you try to mount it to the tractor.

I have a J.D. L. two levers on the front of bale wagon.. each lever has different groves and you can shut off the poo
mover.. LOL.. I haul goat crud from a neighbor and sling on my field.. forgot to do this once and spread it down the
road... not sure neighbors appreciated that..

Beeter lever will have 2 notches far apart, one off and other on. Web lever will have several notches with off being away from the others the distance of about the space 3 notches take up. Then the first notch after that space is slowest, so slow you cannot see it move and the farther you go into the notches the faster the web moves. For normal unloading set in about middle of the notches. There will always be a bit that with the beeter running will not get thrown out. So put beeters out of gear and set web in fastest notch to clean out bed of what the beeters will throw back towards front of spreader. The fastest web speed gets bed cleared faster. Then when done set both levers to out of gear notch.
