Rotary Mower came to a sudden Halt

Scooting along with the trusty 8-ft 3-pt Kodiak and all of a sudden it just seemed to lock up. Happened so fast i didn't get the PTO lever off til it killed the tractor (which means the slip clutch ain't slipping) None of the gearboxes were hot. Pulled out of the grass, looked it over and under it, turned it over by hand saw nothing strange. Engaged PTO at near idle and it was about to tighten up so headed for the shed. About to get some wrenches and another rain storm. I'm going to hook it to another tractor as I write this it crossed my mind that maybe something in the tractor's PTO failed! (Low-houred 6520 Mahindra).Terrible year, something breaks weekly.

I had that happen with a 6 foot bush hog brand once. I had just started using it and went about 30 feet and wham total lockup. I had checked gear oil and everything else prior to starting. I assumed gearbox. When I checked it out it turned out that a kid who was helping me had laid a chain on the deck to transport it. The chain had fallen into the inspection hole so I didn't see it prior to starting. Took it about 30 feet to wrap and lockup lol.

Ahhh - Lee, you bring back bad memories. Years ago I replaced the slip clutch on our rotary mower. My father-in-law (great guy) noticed a limb had fallen in the pasture and took the tractor and brush hog over to pull the limb off. On the way back he decided he'd mow along the inside of the fence. You guessed it - he laid the chain on the mower deck and the end of it dribbled down through the hole and locked it up. The clutch worked good, but he burned it up trying to figure out how to turn the PTO back off, ha.
