Where are you going to find parts.I think Agco bought the company I doubt you can get many parts anymore.I would check that out before jumping on it.Scott

I have never owned a Freeman but a customer we had in the late 60's bought one new for his custom haying operation,, No baler made then would even compare to it in capacity or how it was built,, he said he never even slowed down if he picked up a fence post or rock it just ATE them and tied them in a bale,, he ran it 7 or 8 years custom haying and sold it for what he paid for it,, far as I know he never put a part in it all those years either

I don't think there is any comparison. The 290 was a good baler in it's day but the Freeman will take a lot more hay. Where I live in Central Washington State most hay is put up in 3 tie bales and Freeman is definitely the choice of almost all farmers. They are heavy and very tough, also expensive to fix when something goes wrong. The hydro drives take quite a bit of horsepower to run them right. The engine balers work good but you need a pretty stout drawbar on your tractor as they are heavy.

All day long. Have a friend with a couple of them and they are like the Energizer Bunny. And he is tuff on equipment.

I’m guessing the Freeman is an early 70’s model, judging by the v465 engine. It doesn’t seem like the design has changed much over the decades? Are the Knotters trouble some?
The specs say 84 strokes per min. My new holland is 80 strokes.
How or why does it eat a lot more hay? Thanks.
