JD 567 baler

I have a 2005 567 net wrap baler that has approx 5000 bales on it. About every 10th roll some net will get caught on the topmost roller. If I don’t get out and climb up there and get it off, more rolls will mess up. Now that the season is over, what can I do to fix this for next year? Was this a design flaw and if so, are the 568’s or 569’s any better?
Thanks

The only way I'm aware of that netwrap can get carried to top roller is by net getting snagged by a belt or belt lacing. Check lacings & belts for flaws. Have you ever checked net cutoff knife for sharpness? Does net have long strings on cut end of netwrap roll?

Jim, maybe I misspoke. It’s not the topmost 2” roller, it’s the 5-6” roller underneath that one that always catches the net. I sharpened the knife again last season and there are no long strands hanging out or on the rolls.

I knew which roller you were referring to because my 467 did the same thing only not as often as your baler before I put a new set of belts on my baler a couple yrs back. After I installed new belts it hasn't done it since & my baler has 25,000+ bales on the monitor.

Ok thanks Jim, I’ll check the belts and lacings over good. I haven’t checked yet but I’d bet it’d be pricey to replace all the belts.

If you are making a "full" bale the wrap will catch on the top roller and wrap around it. It is best to make a bale 1 inch smaller than "full" to eliminate that problem. I may not have understood your problem exactly, but if that is your problem this will sure help to stop it.

I don't make bales over 64''-65'' tall but before I installed new belts my baler would wrap larger top roller ever once in a while. After installing new belts I can't remember last time net wrapped larger top roller.

I make the bales 70.5” for that reason. My JD mechanic said, in his opinion, there’s very little clearance on that top roller. He said it could be rust or a burr on the roller or something wrong on the belts catching the net. I’ll check both when I get time.

I bought the baler used in 2012 and I’ve learned over the years to not overfill it and to always try to finish a roll on the left side. The previous owner traded it in because his workers could never make a roll with net wrap on it! My dealer went thru the baler before I took it home. They cut off about 3 inches thick of netwrap all the way across that top roller. No wonder it didn’t work for them. And the previous owner let it sit outside. I had my dealer clean the rust off that roller before I took it home but like I say, about 1 out 10 rolls will have a little strip of net get caught on that roller. Very frustrating.

IMHO rust on large top roller shouldn't be a problem because net isn't supposed to touch the roller anyway.

Ok thanks guys. I’ll check the belts and lacings over good next week. I checked on a new set of belts, $300 each. Ouch!!

It's possible just resizing belts with "new lacings" could cure the problem. Do your fields have any small rocks. Small rocks can put divots in belts which can catch net.

I’ve seen a divot or two in the belts but I didn’t think it was excessive. I roll around 300-350 rolls a year on my place. I don’t custom roll. Pretty much rock free hay fields. Thanks

New belts required on a JD (7" 3 ply diamond grip) at 5k bales?????? Must be some really rugged operating conditions.

Normally belts last longer. I was just searching for reasons causing net wrapping problems. I replaced the belts on my 467 at 22,000 bales.
