Brush cutter suggestions

Right now I have an international machinery Corp. brush cutter.
5' three point I use with my Farmall 300. It works ok. It is
old and pretty wore out. I got it used and cheap. I usually
just use it for cutting tall grass and weeds. Tonight I tried
cutting some actual brush and it didn't do what I wanted. Brush
was around 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches but it was tall. Probably 7'.
I put the cutter all the way up and backed over the brush hen
pulled over it. Did this several times, each time lowering the
cutter. It just didn't do what I thought it would. Am I asking
too much ? I had a friend come here a while back with a tow
behind new idea 7' cutter with a 60 hp tractor and it walked
right through the same area ! So if I was going to buy a
different cutter what are your recommendations ?

I personally like a Woods. The blades are easy to change and there is more room between the deck and the blades resulting in requiring less power. You need a 6' with a 300. You buy them at an implement dealer rather than a farm supply store. You only need a 3/4 inch wrench to change the blades. A BB72 will cut bigger stuff than you want to run over with your tractor

So what didn’t it do? Keep in mind no brand of cutter is going to make an old 35 hp tractor work like a 60 hp. My guess is the tractor can’t spin the blades as fast as your friends. Brush cutters all work pretty similar. As far as cutting brush, most will do pretty much the same thing.

I understand the hp to deck size ratio isn't even close. The
tow behind cutter seemed to knock everything down and chop it
up in less passes. It was a much heavier built machine, and
that's kinda what I was getting at.

I do think it has enough power. I just think the actual cutter is too light duty for what I was trying to do. Tractor had plenty of power, but cutter seemed too light for the job. It was pretty wore out when I got it. I usually only use it for cutting grass, not brush. I would like something a little heavier duty for cutting brush. The one I have now does fine cutting tall heavy grass but not brush.

I had an international machinery 5ft They are not a brush mower. I went with a Bush Hog brand what a difference. Have had it for 11 years still same blades. The International went through two blades in 6 years, one came apart and flew out from under never found it.
