I have a 1943 John Deere B and just got a John Deere 44AH 2 bottom plow From what I have read the 44 model can be adjusted to be a 2 14 or 2 16 Would it be right size for my B if its okay set at 14 inch Thanks

The 44 plow was made in 3 different frame sizes. The small that is very scarce was a 10" or 12" plow, the mid size frame that in some areas was the most popular was either 12" or 14". Other areas the large frame was most popular and either 14" or 16" with most of them being used on the 16" setting. the mid frame model would have been the model wanted for the 12" bottoms with 14" bottom users picking either mid or large frame. They all used same bottoms with just a different share. Now unless you have verry easy working soil then you need to stick with either a 2-12" plow or if you want a larger bottom then find a single bottom plow. Anything larger than a plow that cuts 24" is going to overload your tractor in average conditions. I had a 46 B, same tractor and 2-12 was first gear plowing. For a 2-14" you should have 30 PTO HP and you have close to 20 PTO HP. 2-12" you should have 25 PTO HP. I did also have a No 44H plow set for 14" and that was good enough for a late B of 28 PTO HP. for no more than I used it. I would never have tried hooking it to the 46 B if I still had that B at that time.
