Have this old Disk?

Acquired an Independent Mfg disk that needs a little TLC. Looks like Agri Supply has most of the parts for the disk shaft but ran into a problem with the disk blades. Front half has notched disks that measure 15 inches, only choices from ASC are 14 and 16, no 15. In fact I couldn't find 15" disk blades anywhere on the net.

I need one disk blade to replace an oversized and broken plain blade someone installed in the past. The disks do not look to be worn very much, from looking at the notches 1/2 inch wear would be pretty noticeable. What am I missing, never messed with a disk before.

Could be, the rear disks are 16", guess it's safe to assume it had all 16's when new. Hate to have to buy 8 new disk blades when I haven't actually bought the disk yet. Right now it's kinda on loan.

Whats it worth in the condition it is in and what would it be worth if I fixed it up?

I saw a similar sized disc sell for about $500 at an auction the end of July. A decent 3 point disc 6-8 feet wide generally brings $400 or more at auction.

Just replaced some disc baleds on my old
international 370 measured 18 but the part number
came up as 20 inch

It came with 16 inch. They are wore that much.

If you own it, one new blade will wear down pretty quick to get closer to the others, it will sure be noticeable until then tho.

If it?s a loaner, welcome to being a beggar, sometimes you get to pony up and make things right. Been on both sides of the situation......

Best I can tell without taking it any further apart is it will need about $200.00 in parts to make it really close to like new. I can probably buy it for $100 - $150.00.

Rear disks and bearings are in good condition, front bearings are mostly shot. Thinking most of the wear would be on 1/2 the bearings and the other 1/2 may still be usable. If I have to replace all 8 bearing halves the cost would be a little higher.

Doubt I can buy a new one for $400.00??

If the notches are only a half inch deep now that means it came with 18" blades when new and are wore that much. And you put 18" on and it will pull easier and do in one pass what you will be taking 2 passes to do with those 15" blades. Notches orignally were about 1.5" deep. Not that much difference in price to put a new already wore out 16" blade on instead of putting on the 18" you should.

Went and measured, notches are right at 1" deep as it sits. How deep would the notches be on a new blade?

Just to wrap this up. The Agri Supply web site says the notches on a new blade are 1 1/2 inches deep which falls right in line with my measurements. Basically my existing disk blades are worn down 1 inch and 16" disks are the correct replacement.

Ordered new bearings, spacers and disks for the front gangs, about $250.00 with shipping. The axles are in usable condition but will have to build up a small area on one where the disk was turning on the shaft. No real problem, weld then grind it square.

Will end up with $350.00 in it after I buy it from my neighbor which I think is a pretty good deal.

We sold our Imco 6' disc that had minimal use for $350 CAD so your cost is not out of line IMO........
