This old plow hasn?t been in the ground for 20 years and that was to cut 3 passes for a fire break on the edge of a hay field it?s far from scoured but there is a spot or two of chrome showing through

After they?ve been sitting that long the last plow I brought back to life took 100 acres and that was stopping every round to scrape the dirt off

A flap wheel on a grinder works wonders.

I will second taking a flap wheel on a grinder the shine them up faster.

When I store mold board plows I always wipe the loose dirt off and then paint them with soft black coating/paint( JD-TY25637 12-oz. Aerosol $11.98, Some farm stores sell it calling it plow coat or tillage coat. TSC had it for around $6-7 a can.) if you can find it. It is made to come off easy the next time you use the plows. If not use the cheapest Dollar store paint you can find. It will stick a little better but usually comes off easy. When we plowed every year and my plows set inside all the time, I just wiped grease on the mold boards. Now my plows may set outside at times and it is years between uses.

I started using till coat every year after the plow gets parked after the last plow I brought back to life this plow has been up in an old stack yard for years . painted the moldboards on the IH last January and it stuck and then it scoured off in about 10 feet

I think I will give the flap wheel a whirl I won?t be plowing enough with this plow to scour them otherwise I don?t think .

The key to protecting your moldboards from rust is to back up to the shop door when you are done with "that Piece for now", and spray some "whatever" paint on it before unhooking it. Just in case the next job doesn't make it to the top of the list before winter.

I bought a plow that had a coat of paint on clean blades. First time I used it the paint wore right off and I had a nice, slick blade underneath. So when
finished with it, On went a coat of paint.....just as fast (and cheap) as spraying a coat of oil of some sort and will last till the next time I use it.

Great idea.

Didn?t have a flap wheel but I did have a wire wheel and then I soaked them with panther p!$$ the front moldboard is pitted pretty bad I doubt it will ever come back to life but the other two cleaned up pretty nice

After the last rock pile plow I saved I?ve started painting the moldboards Every fall back when we plowed every acre every year we didn?t paint the moldboards but they would scour in half a day . These plows that don?t get used for 20 years or more can be hard to polish
