New holland 268

I have a 268 I would like to put into service this spring. I looked at agmanuels.com. Is the owners manuel the only one I need? Looks like it covers setting it up and maintain it. This is my first baler so I?ll need all the help I can get.

Thanks Ryan.

I have manuals up the but on all my equipment.. operators, parts and service.. Service manuals usually cover most of operators manual but has a ton of other info that can come in handy..

Bill is 100% right on pdf manuals.. if you have access to printer their great as you can print off just the portion of manual your working on get it dirty and toss it once finished and yet still have pdf nice and clean to print off again if needed.. I have converted most manuals to pdfs just for this reason and have access to them with the ipad, laptop, iphone...esp if out in field broke down..

good luck..

New Holland used to have a small format knotter (sort of "tops and tricks") manual. Your dealer may still be able to get you one. Good for in the field trouble shooting. Also there are multiple options for most of the major components (2 or 3 joint driveline, regular or super sweep pickup, 2 pair or 3 pair cross feed, etc.) so be careful when ordering parts. If this is new to you, or hasn't been used in a long time got through all the adjustments before starting. Nothing so bad as having 10 acres ready to bale with rain coming tomorrow and baler won't tie.

1) Does the online retailer have a licsence from New Holland, or are the stealing it? 2) Is the download a first generation, or a copy of a copy of a copy with pictures you can't make anything out of?

You are in for a lot of fun, satisfaction and frustration. Not necessarily in that order. There is a good video on youtube, it was produced by New Holland, that shows how the knotters work, in slow motion. Make sure the knife is sharp and the knife clearance is properly set. Learn what a hay dog is and make sure hay dog springs are good. The hay dogs keep the hay from springing out of the bale chamber. Just one example of something to learn about. Fun, if you like mechanical things.

Good question. All too many older New Holland manuals are cheaper and better quality direct from NH Document Management than what the pirates offer.

The repair manual is the one you need. It shows you how to adjust everything. Make sure your plunger lockout isnt stuck or youll break needles. Also the plate that holds the string will sometimes pull too hard on the string as its leaving. Also you should flip the ceramic twine holders if theyre worn too much. The little nuts that hold them are usually rusted so blast them first.

There is no published repair manual for a 268. The op manual will tell you everything you need to know about knotter and feeder troubleshooting.
