I am looking at the plow in the picture, Is it a F145 model? I've never used a semi-mount plow, how do you guys like them compared to a 3 point hitch plow?? Any info would be appreciated, anything I need to pay close attention to?

I have 2 of those F-145 Semi-Mounted plows and Love them..

The rear wheel steers that end in natural curves, forward or backward..

You will not get "Weight Transfer" as with a 3-point, but I can tell you, the weight gets there and you may need a couple of hundred pounds up front to keep it down in really tough going..
I pull mine with my JD 720D. and it walks right along in third and not showing any smoke..

This type of plow (I Think) are safer when transporting on a highway..you don't take the weight off the front wheels..steering is good..

I have pulled both of mine (4x16") With my 630 in established Alfalfa ground with Jack Wax.. about 8" deep..works the daylights out of it, but it stays in 2nd gear..!!
Remember, 620/630's have a faster 2nd gear than a 720 D...

Shares, Landslides and Shins may be needed to put it in working condition..
I would re-pack the coulter bearings and drop the bottoms to clean up the pivot for each one...they get very stiff..

What will you pull this with.? It is going to take considerably more HP than the 2-cylinder JD's needed..60 to 70 HP I would say would be minimum..
They do a very good job of plowing..

I took one F-145 4x16" and cut it down to 3x16"..was not hard to do and it looks just like factory..

No Gauge wheel is needed unless you are putting it on a mighty Healthy JD "G" or "A"..they will not maintain "Position" like the 20/30 series 3-point will.

Mould Board extentions and it will turn everything nicely..

They are around $25.00/each from JD, but can be located used..

Definitely F145 ; Looking a colters & it seams to have NU style moleboards thinking its newer A series , Over older H series ; Semi-mount easier to adjust that full mount ,pull type maybe some easier to adjust, Looks to have had front pivot & hitch replaced [dif. paint] hitch is hyd. landing option , looks to be changed or made non operating .. has stubble turners [some call trash boards] ; I'd check [measure] moleboards for alignment , cond. of trips, check if working, manually trip them....

This looks to have the same moldboards as my 1250 JD plow. They seem to turn dirt over better than the high speed bottoms. As far as the hydraulic landing option, where do you put a cylinder for that? Where is the serial number tag located on these plows?

That will be a nice match for your tractor. I like plowing with a semi-mount much better than a three point hitch plow. It doesn't have side hill control on it, but if your ground is fairly level, you won't need it.

With that tractor I would guess you have lower link sencing so should work, If you had top link sencing like a 5000 Ford then you would need the top link sencing option. I did not haf a Deere but a MF and prefered operation over the 3 point hitch. but plow was just a bit too much for my tractor and did not have good style bottoms as I had the bottoms for extra deep plowing that I did not want to do. I still prefer a pull type then the semi mounted as it still works a lot like a pull type but a fully mounted is easier to hook up. And you can get in tighter spaces with them. Also a semi mount can be a longer more bottoms and heavier than a fully mounted plow.

The NU [new universal] moleboards came out in "68" ; they seam to work better in heavy, wet, gummy soils.. the cyl. mounts on the two brackets that stick up , with 1 1/8 holes & slid the squre hitch bar back & forth.. this plow has been changed don't look like factory, see pic.. The F145H did not have serial # The A series did from factory ,little glue on tag, but 99% are wore off.. Pic..

Pete, I sure looks like someone made a side hill attachment on it. It has 2 cylinder brackets sticking up where a cylinder would hook.

So long green line man, would the plow i'm looking at be a F145H or A?? What would be the value of a JD 1250 3-16" plow be worth? Average shape, paint fair.

It hard to tell from pic. Looks like it could have been repainted, covering any decal or serial # ;Judging by style of coulters , my best guess, would be an F145 A series, which came out about 69' 70'.. as far as value on 1250, I'd only be guessing , plow prices very Greatly from NW. to Midwest to SE. across the country .... full 3pt mounted seem have good demand.. one thing I do know, a lot for F145's found there way to china , with the High scrap prices.. ,
