I picked up a model S8 0001 for a couple hundred bucks.

OK, OK...I know. It's ancient. It's belt driven. It's only 7 feet wide. But we have a little farm. I can also send my wife and/or daughter out to the field to tedd, without them needing to handle some traffic-stopping, fence-busting, 20' wide tedder...or trying to strong-arm the folding mechanism.

It needs teeth...a lot of teeth. The local farm supply store literally looked at me like I was an extra from the zombie apocalypse, when I showed them a tooth and asked if they had any.

Grimm is out of business now, right?

I picked up a brand new rubber mounted rake tooth (for a buck 99) at Tractor Supply...and I want to see if I can cowboy engineer a way to mount two of them on each arm, instead of teeth that I can't get.

All of the bearings and PTO stuff looks stock. I think I can get that anywhere (although mine are fine right now) in the future.

What about that big belt? Anyone know where I can get that monster drive belt, so that I have a spare?

Those were good old tedders. Don't sell it short. An unimaginable amount of hay has been saved with an old Grimm.

Thanks.

The Grimm tooth that they had didn't match mine, but there were some others that may substitute.
Right now, I have 10 new ones from Leader. You may think that's overkill for a 2 spool tedder with 12 teeth total.
Not quite. When I bought it, it only had 4 complete teeth on it. Four more only had one tine. Four others were broken completely and just had the spring remaining.

I hope that I have a little better luck with the machine.

:-)

Check this copy and paste link to an A&I rake tooth catalog. It has pictures and dimensions These are usually in the $4 or so range and any A&I dealer can order them although you may have to buy a box of like 10.

If the Grimm listing is not the one you need then you may be able to match something else that is close.

Thanks for the picture.

I think that mine are different? I called the 802 number mentioned above and got a company called "Leader Evaporators". The man mentioned that there are two different types of Grimm tedder teeth. Those that mount to a pipe and those that mount to a flat bar. Mine mount to a flat bar, and the bolt loop between the springs is on the opposite side from the tines and at a right angle to the tines (so the mounting bolt points the same direction as the tines).

Leader in VT does have the teeth. They're 12 bucks a pop.

I got 10 to get me through for now, but I'll get more, if I can find out that what you have are indeed the correct part.

For others' reference, Leader also has the hexagonal belt, for about 260 bucks.

All of the responses were useful!
I'll call them first, just to see what's going on.

Call Leader. 802-775-5411 7:30-4:30 MF and 8:00-3:00 Sat.
Have the same tedder- love it's simplicity.
Called them earlier this Feb--had the springs in stock! Got them in a few days, seems like it was somewhere around $6-12 ea plus nominal shipping. Bet they can hook ya up with a belt as well.
Used mine today, just wish it was a 4 basket.

I believe that I have a couple of full boxes of teeth. They are supposed to be teeth for a Grimm tedder, but I don't know if all Grimm tedders used the same teeth. The ones I have are steel, double-prong, and straight. If you can wait a couple of days, I'll try and get some pictures and dimensions for you.

Use a steel New Holland rake tooth. Put the hook in a vise, and stick a bar through the spring, twist it until the hook is at right angles to the spring.

Grimm was bought out by Leader Evaporator CO, but they are still in the same old building, and two years ago still had some tedder parts.

Maybe worth a call: 802 775 5411
