I was getting the old IH 47 baler ready and I noticed both needles are rubbing as they come up to feed the wire to the knotters. There was a bit of slack (slop) and the cradle could be shifted to one side to better center them. I put it away and thought about on and off and I started wondering about using bushings to shift the cradle to one side - is it common to do this? How hard would it be (baler is store a couple miles away and hadn't gone to check it out yet.....

This is the same baler that was having an issue with a single needle getting bent - no one could figure out why. I believe now it is the result of it hitting the bottem side of the bale chamber instead of going through the hole to feed the knotter.

Needle carriage is bent. Replace that first.
