I have the above monitor I just bought and want to make sure it is in working order. If plugged into the power unit and power is supplied to the power unit, will the monitor light up in the absence of a planter harness and sensors or are the planter harness and sensors necessary to complete a circuit? I would like to at least make sure the monitor will power up before I get too close to planting time. Second, is there a trick to moving the 2-4-8 row switch on the back of the monitor or should it slide easily. This one is stuck hard and will not move. Also would anyone know of a schematic for this monitor? That would help me a lot in checking continuity and troubleshooting.

Yes, should have mentioned in my last post. Cleaned and lubed the switch. Still working hard but I got it to switch over to the 6 row position. I'll know for sure when the new bulbs arrive and I get it completely setup for six rows. I am not anticipating any difficulty with the switch.

The switch is probably corroded if the PO had a 4 row planter and never moved it. Spray with any good electro lyte and or the old dollar bill trick. 10 minute task at best.

I would guess that a small shot of any electro lube would free up that switch. The OP probably had a 4 row planter and never had a need to move it. 10 minutes, no dollars to R&R

I got it to power up. Deciding that the simplest thing was likely a fuse, I put tested both fuses in my meter. Both looked good, but one had broken up under an end cap. They are lightweight fuses. Problem did not repeat. Think I will call JD and see can they check it out anyway. Don't want to do that on the day I want to plant.

Ag Express is an excellent place to send a monitor. Had one back to the shop in 50 hours by UPS this week. They have many locations I think.

Looks like there is one in Indiana. That won't be too bad for postage. I'll call them and see what they can do.

Is there a JD dealer nearby? They should have a test box for it.

I will call around. There is really only one JD dealer around here and useless doesn't come close to describing. They sell lawn mowers, period.

Tell me about the monitor you need to sell. 4 row, 6 row, 8 row? What type planter was it used on? Do you know if it works?

I bought the monitor I have on hand from a post here just like you are trying to do. "Dealer refurbished" unit doesn't even light up. First time I have ever had a problem dealing with a forum member.
