I've had this 2 bottom Little Genius for sometime now, but never gave it much thought. I got to looking it over last night and today to see what it might need to get into some working order. Right off I found nothing regarding the bottoms matched the IHC literature and parts lists and an internet search showed Little Genius stuff never impossible to find. I pulled a share to get a part number and found 'JD' stamped on the backside. I checked for JD plow parts and right away found new shares and landsides and moldboards.

Is this a normal thing to do? Sure doesn't looked cobbled up.

FWIW, I know nothing about plows or plowing. Just thought I'd tackle this project and learn something

Chris B.

The blue arm mounted to the furrow axle that also attaches to the furrow lever assembly dates your plow to 1945 or 1946. So, it probably came from the factory with blacksmith share bottoms, and like Leroy says, the moldboards wore out or they couldn't rebuild the shares and didn't want to buy new ones and looked for a cheaper option. This probably happened more often. I've seen a JD plow with a "newer" Oliver bottom (419 bottom with a throw-away lay).
I briefly thought about doing this exact same thing. I wonder, though, how they did this, holes got drilled where, and whether the bottoms have the original pitch (nose pitched down or laid back)? JD's used four bolts to attach frog to beam but IH's used only three bolts.

That plow is a IHC Little Genious No. 8 and probably the orignal bottoms were wore beyond repair decently so owner went to parts yard and found the good Deere bottoms, probably easier to get parts for as well. And just bolted them on, likely did not even have to put other holes in beam as well.
