Trying to use a 70 John Deere on an 813 plow. I have an aftermarket (Titan) 3 point on the tractor and it allows the plow to go deep. The plow has the bracket for a gage wheel but is currently just used for a kick stand. If someone has some dimensions for me I'd make one myself maybe with a trailer axle, hub, and wheel. Doubt I'd ever find an OEM replacement.

Or has anyone found a way to get some kind of depth control with this 3 point setup. I keep thinking there has to be a way.

If you have some scrap metal and a welder, you can make it.. I can take pictures of mine, if ya want to see them..mine is made with "Over-Kill" and is a little heavy but should last into eternity..!!

Thank you for all the responses! Now I need to line some things up. I like the idea of using chains to make sure the tractor has the weight. When I was plowing the garden 12 inches deep I know I have enough power not traction.

Although the gage wheel would be handier without having to adjust chains.

Thank you for the ideas!

Attached is a picture of my JD 813 3-bottom plow attached to my JD 70. It has the steel gauge wheel. I can measure the diameter if you plan to build one. It was originally a 4-bottom 814 plow but I took one bottom off as 4 bottom were way too much plow for my 70. Al

This plow has a tail wheel, right? You use the length of the top link to adjust plowing depth. Simple as that.

NOPE, not on a JD 50.60 or 70..there is no "Draft control" and NO way to control plowing Depth without a Gauge wheel..

How much down force do you suppose this would make? Just to get an idea on what size chain a guy should use. I have an idea.....

1/4" should be sufficient. 5/16 for sure.Chain or cylinder stops are acctually better than a gauge wheel. Carring the plow puts the weight on the tractor's tires.Whereas a gauge wheel puts no wt on the tractor, resulting in more slippage.BTDT.My Super M will pull one more bottom when a cylinder stop is used.

Only problem is there's no cylinder on plow or tractor in question.

JD 70. missed that part. He needs to rig up some kind of depth limiting chain system. Should be fairly simple.Attatch to the axle, down to the'tug' link.Would involve makeing some simple brackets.

the best 'depth' control is a set of stroke limiting blocks. They Are aluminum 'blocks'. They are twp piece, with a spring'keeper' to hold them together. Place them around the cylinder shaft. they will keep the plow at a constant depth. You wont even need a gauge wheel with a set of those.I use em on my SuperM when 'pulling' a mounted plow.

I have a picture of one on an 812, the same wheel. I don't have dimensions, maybe tomorrow, The tire, I think is on a 12" wheel.

I used an old piece of Bar stock with evenly spaced holes already in it, welded a trailer axle stub securely to that...

Then, I made a 12" plate that will bolt where the one in the above picture is, with a 3 bolt holes.(one above the other).

Drill those holes so that when you bolt the GW to it, and measure it's length, then move it to the other position it will make a difference in length of only 1/2 the space between the bolt holes..so you have more depth options.. If you wnat to just Bolt the GW to the Mounting plate, you may well need 4 holes that will yield a different length for each mounting position.. If you make a BOX, for the GW to slip up into, you only need 2 holes, drilled appropriately to give you twice as many GW depths as there are holes in the vertical Bar.. Hope that makes sense...!! You WILL need the wheel and tire, to make measurements as to how long the Vertical is going to need to be.. Not hard to make...just remember to space the wheel OUT far enough the you do not end up with the rear Coulter too close to the tire..!!! If you can, make the GW vertical Bar long enough that you can use it as a Parking Stand.! If you would use Heavy-Walled Square Tube, the Vertical part probably would be stout enough, but making the Box for it to slip up and down in will be more or less the same procedure.. I think trying to use anything other than a Gauge Wheel would be a waste of your time and NOT using anything is just about impossible on the 50, 60 and 70 ...!!! Look through your scrap pile and see what you have..!!! Ron..

Gosh, I made a mistake...That plate thickness was to be 1/2"

Sorry....!!!

The rubber tire and rim are a tail wheel for a 44 or 55 plow.

Yes I don"t know how far apart those holes are. Is that bar solid or box tubing?

Solid bar approx 1" thick,2 1/2" wide. Holes 1 1/2" center to center.Had a rollover(#820) that used same gauge wheel.

The Mount has 2 holes that divide the space between the holes by 1/2, to give more choices for GW settings for plow depth..
