John Deere no 5 sickle pitman hook up

Is there a trick to get the spring depressed and the ball and socket hooked up? Shown are the old then new parts fr the socket connecting pitman to sickle bar

Note the rear strap (Key 1), release spring (Key 3), front strap (Key 17), and latch fork (Key 19).
