I have an electric brand hoist on a barge wagon. It has a single acting cylinder on it. The problem is that it will raise up but not lower. I was curious if somebody could enlighten me on this? I can get it to lower by bleeding off the tip with somebody in the wagon. Have tried two tractors and a new tip. Could the internal seals be bad allowing oil to both sides of the piston? If so where can i get a seal kit? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I doubt the seals are bad on the cylinder. The ram end of the cylinder should have a vent in it so if you were leaking past, it would shoot oil out of the vent when you were trying to lift it. I have seen them not want to go down on tractors on newer tractors. What we did is shut the tractor off for lowering.
