John Deere? It has been sitting for many years but for $50 bucks couldn't pass it up. Deck is solid, gear box seems good and spins easy with no play.
The pto shaft is stuck, needs tires and need to straighten carrier on one rear wheel. I think it's worth fixing.

It's a Long, made in Tarboro, North Carolina. I have its twin.

Do you still use yours? Is it a mower worth investing a little$ and time in?
Thanks

Yup. Mine has had frame repairs and has rust holes in the deck, but it still cuts grass like a lawn mower. I never tried anything heavier than small brush or saplings.

I've seen that hitch before, but I can't place it. New Idea?

Make sure when you get the PTO shaft apart that you put it back together in phase. It is not in phase now and the shaft will vibrate.

If what I remember 'bout drive shafts is correct, then they can be 90 degrees OR parallel, just not in between those two. bjr

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

No driveshaft needs to be in phase as RickieBlue stated. 90 degrees
difference in u-joints will vibrate in turns.

How do you tell ? is it a matter of lining up the u-joints in some way ?

Good eye, Rickieblue- I'm always amazed at what guys catch from photos on here.

As far as make, its about anybody's guess- those mowers have been made by so many aftermarket outfits (many of them lost to history) that its almost impossible to tell. And nobody has parts for any of them, if they're that old- you just have to be creative (and not so far into them that it will break your heart if you have to scrap it- which you aren't).

Kinda favors a Brillion. I had a similar one years ago and the shade of green looks about right.
