I just had to take the tire apart to see how it was made. The metal ring had some kind of fastener in it that must of been pretty flimsy. Whatever it was, there was nothing left of it. I would love to know how this tire is assembled. If you look at the rim picture there is a valve stem hole right next to the white spider nest. It was letting rain water in. The rim is also rusted out. It was a 4" wide by 15" diameter tire. I found one on the internet at company called High Grade Mfg. complete less axle for $65.00. Has any one on here ever dealt with them?

What do you care if that tire rotates on the rim? Put it back together and use it. It is not on there as a rolling wheel, rather just "skid" when you are in uneven terrain. It should not be adjusted to be rolling while mowing on level ground.

The metal band is common now, I have been seeing them for some time, the good wheels have stainless bands and hardware, the cheap units have steel bands. What is important is how tight the sections of rubber are the tighter they are the less water gets between the sections. A good wheel will have at least 72 tire sections. Your old wheel had what is called a fixed hub, your replacement will probable have a bolt in hub, just make sure you get the correct axle size, they are available with 5/8", 3/4" and 1" axle bushings

I never seen one with a metal band in it. The ones I have taken apart all had cables.

Never heard of High Grade. There are several manufactures of those type of wheels.

$65 for the whole thing seems reasonable.

All JD's have the metal band. $65 complete is cheap with axle. Better buy. Go to JD and see what they will ask. We mow for the State DOT and we replace a lot wheels (HX 15).Try A&I if you have a dealer close. JD own them and it's their aftermarket. Same part and a lot cheaper.
