Got the knotters torn apart....then got diverted, sidetracked and delayed. NH273

Now a year later I can't remember what the trick is to putting the wiper arm back on a knotter.

Does the billhook have to come off to do it?

Edd,

I just finished replacing the wiper arm on my NH 273 baler. The billhook does not need to be removed. As you tip the knotter assembly up, you'll find a place where the cam follower on the wiper arm is at a low point on the cam that it rides on and that point will allow you to pull the wiper arm right straight out of the knotter assembly.

When you bought the wiper arm, you should have received a couple of very thin spacers. I don't remember the exact specification, but you're supposed to use one or more of the spacers to arrive at a certain clearance between the wiper arm and the frame that it is going to be mounted in.

The really tough part is that you might have to bend the wiper arm to get the groove on the wiper arm to line up with the curved surface of the billhook. And then also, the wiper arm is supposed to just barely contact the billhook to efficiently wipe the knot off the billhook. The wiper arm is malleable iron, but it is very hard to bend.

Good luck.
