I just looked at an old Massey with a sherman power digger model 54F100 on it. Does anyone have any info specs or opinions on the hoe ? The tractor is not running right now but should not take a whole lot. My main interest is for the hoe and not the tractor

I tried to look up the book my dad had on his sherman power digger...cant remember the model # of it (or didnt know) but he bought it new in 1958 on a ford tractor. brother & I cant remember the model # of the tractor either. In my opinion this hoe was way ahead of its time. it was a very strong hoe for what it was & had the hell pounded out of it before it was retired in 1982. brother & I started running it in the mid to late 70s & it still ran strong, but it wouldnt keep up with the 580 case hoe which was getting more common in them days.

What are you going to use it for? They were great little units in their day. I used one for several years on a ford 600. If I were to dig too deep, or try to lift too much, it just was not the machine I was asking more of it than it was built to do. If it is in good condition, and not broke and welded up, hoses in good shape, pins not too lose,....etc. It was a good light duty backhoe for me, but I wasn"t trying to put food on the table with mine. My luck was good with this same model, I think the hydraulics were tired, but you"ll have that on a 60 year old unit.

IIRC, there's some manuals scanned and posted over @ the OTHER "N" Ford site.
