Baler twine

Went into TSC to get some twine today they told me it was put away all ready they don't keep it out on the floor after labor day Kind of odd if you ask me most people do their late cutting after labor day here.

Ask your local TSC to order baling twine from another one of their stores.

Saw at least 10-12 boxes of 110 baling twine on the top shelf at TSC this weekend.

Seems that more and more, the stuff that should be available at TSC is gone, not like their name is "Tractor Supply" but even the Oil filters they USED to carry for my tractors are gone. Have had to switch to going to NAPA to get what I used to get at TSC. Of course, if you want to feed birds or squirrels, they can fix you right up.... Obvious signs of city dwellers running the company, not anyone associated with Ag.

That's like our Farm & Home store around here. It should be called Home and some farm stuff if anybody bothered to order any. They only restock sprayer parts once a year, if somebody wipes them out of something in march you can bet they won't have any for the rest of the year. Also the fact that you have to wind your way through the clothes to get to what little farm stuff they do have irritates the hell out of me too.

Same here my niece went in to get some for me last week they took it off the floor and put in the back she said all the lawn and garden equipment and supplies was put away we mow our lawns here until November at least the store is not for the fsrmers anymore it for all the want to be city slicker farmers.

It's the same thing with lots of stores. You can't buy winter clothing after Feb 1st up here, the summer clothes are gone by July 4th and Christmas stuff is out on display before Halloween! Our local Lowes has Halloween stuff out
already!

I miss the old Central Tractor Farm and Family stores. You could get darn near everything you needed there all year long. And they actually had TRACTOR PARTS for FARMERS!

Son and I bought out two TSC's supplies of sickle mower guards. Six at one 13 at another - none at a third. All they had - I've still got a lot of rough mowing to do. If I can just get the stuff to dry down for baling. I hope I don't run out of guards!

Check with your local New Holland dealer. Up here their twine is $5 a bale cheaper than that 3rd rate stuff TSC carries.

I can't understand what is at a TSC for a real farmer. We have some real farm supply places that aren't in a shopping center next to the k mart.

check the guards carefully before you put them on!

I found a lot of them had the ledger plates mounted upside down.

(might have just been a bad batch)

Try the local farm Elevator/grain depo.
AG PLUS here in NE Indiana has it at same price as TSC and works great Probably Fresher.

I see some of you said the TSC was more for the city people now you got that right. We had a couple of city people move in up the road from us they bought a good size hay farm they cut their hay one morning with a old massey sickle mower not that there is anything wrong with that by afternoon they were trying to bale the hay and put in the barn if in was not for the neighbor hearing them they would have tried to cut and bale it the same day.

They wouldn't happen to have tried to use a landscape rake to rake their hay by any chance? saw that one locally.

30 miles closer and open past 5pm is what TSC has going for them. For me anyway. If their was a real farm store or dealer close they'd get my business

The one near me has: truck tool boxes, hitch pins, dog dishes, hobby welding supplies and clothes. and if you happen to have an 8n they might actually have some tractor parts. I don't run into too many farmers in a hurry to get their 8n running at 7 pm. I plan ahead and buy all my baler twine at before the season starts from a local farm supply. I just don't see much in the way of parts that can get you going in a pinch. If I get the call in by 4 or 5, atleast 2 of my local equipment dealers will have the part laying at my house by 7 pm. Thinks like my discbine have extra knives in the toolbox. Baler has lots of shear bolts and misc knotter springs in the toolbox. Maybe they are all different but the one near me is a yuppie pond

They serve a purpose, but they are not a full service farm store for sure. I drive by one every day on my way to work. I buy a lot of hardware, welding rod, occasional baling twine, PTO shaft universal joints, Rotella oil, etc. I have found that the TSC close to me makes custom hydraulic hoses, which was a huge score on a Sunday afternoon when I blew one on my haybine. The people at mine are super friendly and helpful, anything they don"t have they try to get the next day for me. And "off season" stuff like baling twine in November is usually on a skid out back, and they have always been happy to bring it out if I ask. That said, look closely at the quality, a lot of what they carry is junk, but sometimes their junk is better than nothing at all. Just my experience.

Like some other guys said, TSC is open past 5PM, doesn't close for an hour at noon, is open all day saturday AND sunday and actually has stuff on sale sometimes. Our one farm store is more of an appliance store these days. The real farm store is 50 miles away and they also close at 5PM and only work a half day on saturday. Sometimes TSC is your best bet.

Same here called one day to see if they had some roller chain gave the kid the size I need for the planter he didn't even look we don't have it went in on my way to work had a whole shell of it had my wife call again samething we don't have it just to lazy to go look.

(quoted from post at 07:41:41 09/05/12) If TSC put it away in the back room they certainly can bring it out on request.
The point that is was tring to make was the twine should not have been put away in the first place here in the south we cut hay sometimes til Oct.

I would agree, the TSC store near me isn't as well stocked as it once was. Shelves are empty at times and the AG items I could use most they no longer carry. If I want feed or fencing I can get it, plenty of stuff for a horse person, or some hardware. Granted, the surrounding area is losing the ag base. Still plenty of farms, but there is more vinyl villa's now in the town where the the store is.

I like the Rural King, but it's twice the drive away. They have everything.

I emailed the main office on Thursday and ask why they put the twine away for the year never got a responce from them poor service.

Our local farm Co-Op is the same,........if you want lawn chairs or gardening gloves, they'll have them!..but good luck if you want oil filters or hayrake teeth! What they Do have they don't seem to Know they have, either.
Seems aimed more at the local leasure resorts now, not at farmers.

As I grow older and wiser, I find that the ag supply stores are also. We who are involved in production ag are a dying breed. And there is more money in horsies and bunny rabbits. Try to find a good large animal vet. Our local NH dealer is now selling Mahindras. To have a good chance in finding parts, I have to call the NH dealer 45 miles away. My local JD dealer has a separate lawn and garden store across the road from the Ag business; our local IH dealer closed up 15 years ago, and the closest is now in (of all places) New Holland, 50 miles away! Tough Chit Shirleys just happens to be about 15 miles, so they usually get stopped at on a regular basis.
