I fried the gearbox on my rotary cutter and I am just going to order a new one because the parts I need cost almost as much as the whole unit.
The bottom seal had allowed the gearbox to drain and I did not catch it until too late, I thought it was noisier than usual but I have gotten to the point that I wear hearing protection and did not catch it in time. (Expensive lesson, my Dad always told me grease and oil are cheaper than metal)
So the question is would you put cornhead grease in a new gearbox?
How do i tell if i get enough in it?
Or should i just chalk this up to being too lazy to check the oil or pay attention to the noise and put recommended oil in it AND CHECK IT EVERY TME I USE IT!!!
