I recently bought another 14t baler to use. I have one also for parts that I used before. This replacement has a much different set up to measure the bale size. I have never seen this before, It uses some kind of push bar attached to the measureing wheel to activate the knotter. How does one adjust the bale length with this setup. I take it this baler is much older than my other baler, is there anyway to figure the yr?

Page 26 of the owners manual explains how to adjust it. OME16470 I would write it here but you pretty much need the pictures also. The manual cost is around $30 from JD

The different type measuring wheel mechanisms were changed at SN 58334. To change bale length one had to change attachment holes on all 4 segments on the earlier styled measuring wheel IE all 4 segments were either larger or smaller diameter total diameter depending on which set of bolts holes were utilized.

I think I see what you are talking about. The measuring wheel has adjustable teeth on it. They can be moved up or down with the slots on each tooth. I will experiment with them. We did bale today and the baler works good. Bales are just too long and heavy.

Movable teeth on a slotted wheel is what I remember from the 14T we used when I was a kid here on the farm. If I remember right, later units used a sliding clip on an arm, with a permanently sized wheel, like the one on my New Holland.

Ray it looks like you are right. I now have one of each type. This older one makes bales 40 inches long. All my hay is made for now and it is too dry for much to grow.

Wheel size and/or the sliding stop on the arm will adjust the length of bale. Density is controlled by two hand screws which control heavy springs on either side of the rear of bale chamber. My NH also has 3 wedge shaped resrtictors bolted th insides of sides of bale chamber - also helps with density.
