This message is a reply to an archived post by Leroy on July 16, 2010 at 05:54:01.
The original subject was "Re: New Idea RakeTedder".

Back in 7/10 I posted a question about my New Idea Rake-Tedder (R-163) and Leroy sent a picture of what I needed. Last summer the rake was badly vandalized and I am now faced with having to reassemble the lift mechanism on the right end of the rake. I am hoping Leroy or someone else could send me a picture of how it is suppose to be assembled.

Also, does anyone know where I could get a parts manual?

I do not remember if I would have your address or not, doughtfull so first I would need full correct mailing address. And then would need what total cost plus shipping would be. Instead of me buying it why don't you call this guy, would be the ones I expect to see this comming weekend and talk direct.' Jim Meister, 3520 S. R. 98, Bucyrus, Ohio 44820, Jim's phone number is 419-562-3094 or cell 419-563-7397. Jim is getting old and not in best of health and his son Tim is taking over and his phone is 419-562-4743 and cell 419-563-7795. If you call say Lester Helmlinger of Wapak said for you to call. There will possibly be a different manual dealer at same show but I would rather deal with Jim or Tim. Let me know before thursday if they do not have it or it does not work for you to call them. Always other possibilities, have some other manual dealers names.

Are you talking about just the lift lever for the front end of the real or the whole real drive? At that time I think I still had the older computor in service that with the camara and scanner pictures could be sent, curent computor says camara is not compatable and have not yet learned hor to scan a picture on the 4- in-one scanner-copier. Might have to go with snail mail.

Might have a parts manual, though I am not very familiar with the New Idea rakes and tedders. Is R 163 the model or a part number?

That is a Lot number as for when they were made and it would be the third and last lot run made in 1952. I have rebuilt several of them and have several more to go. That is what I grew up using. And that lot no. says it is a model no. 4. Have the book for them and they were made at Coldwater, Ohio that is 40 mile from me and the orignal books are usually easy to find at tractor shows or parts swap meets. Books on just about anything New Idea built are avaible from the Coldwater Historicall Sociaty (? spelling). The Sandwich-New Idea rake was built at Sandwich, Illinois from 1925 to 1934 whem rake production was moved to Coldwater. The 3 bar that did not carry a model number was built 1934 to 1947 and were lot no's. 57 - 115. The 4 bar No. 4 came in 1948 - 1953 with the No. 44 starting in 1954 to 1958 and the model on low rubber was the model no. 45-g from 1951 to 1953. The no. 47from 1954 - 1956 and also was low rubber. Did not know New Idea shipped to austraila.
