Bushing removal on NH 68 - Part 2

I got the plunger removed from the baler and have the connecting rod apart. There are 2 badly worn bronze bushings in there. How do I get them out? The replacement bushings are steel so they should wear better. Pin is in pretty good shape and I think it is NLA so that is good.

Long punch or steel rod and drive them out..I would press the new ones in dont want to mess those up putting in.. might be able to drive in with block of wood but id be careful..After all this is done you really need to keep that sucker greased.. It should have a single zerk on that shaft somewhere..

N.H. showes pin is still available if you have question about it.. $19.00 or atleast their websight says its still available..

MSS3020,

Will give the punch a try. Definitely plan to use a press to push the new ones in.

Prior owners did not keep it lubed. I noticed it on the first lubing after I bought it a year ago. Decided to wait till this spring to attack. Only ran around 200 bales thru it last year, do mostly rounders here.

Bearing on other end is in fine shape, no noticeable shake or wear.

Thanks!

Beat the snot out of it with a large punch and neither of them will budge.

Heat? Perhaps use a sawsall and cut a line to relieve the pressure?

John

You need a bushing cutter punch, it is a rounded punch, with a flat side, and a beveled chisel edge. A few taps, and you eventually cut through the bushing, or drive it out.

Really.... wow... I have sawed a line like you said on other problems and it has worked..The cutting punch that the other guy said sounds great if you know where to get one.. I've never used one..
