I recently purchased a 309 planter. It is in good condition except for the fertilizer opening disc. They are frozen and will not turn. Wil it still plant or do i need to find replacement disc. If so where do i find? also looking for sweet corn plates
A any help on this will be appreciated.

They're gonna plug if you try to just drag them without them turning. Take the caps off and there should just be a bolt holding them on. I'd take them off and try to free them up.

There should be a bearing in the disc most of the time they need to be replace if the are froze up most of the time the can be gotten at the parts store cheaper then the dealer.

Thanks for the info, the caps are fastened with rivits. I trir getting the disc off from the back side large nut but it just spins, so it must be rusted off inside.

I'll think you'll find those caps are just driven on over the hubs that are riveted to the blades. No doubt driven up tight so it looks like it's all one piece, but if you do some cleaning with a wire brush,I think you'll find the edge of the caps.

i tried getting the disc off from baskside large nut and it just spins with an impact drill. The caps are on with rivets i hate to cut them off until i know that bearings will fix the problem

Believe me there are caps on them there is properly so much dirt in the grove between the cap and the hub it just looks like one part clean the caps off like rrlund said squirt some wd on them and let them soak a while they will come loose

got the picture now as soon as golf is over i will go and work on it
thanks

Sweet corn is a hit/miss proposition due to the
varied seed size.Just use a "large round" plate, you
will be fine. Are you putting down fert with the
planter?if not,why not just remove the fert
attachment?

I have a large round I wondered if that would work. I also have a bean plate. I would that work?

I would like to use the fert. hopper and auger have been rebuilt no rust at all so hope i can fix or replace the fert. disc
thanks

A bean plate would put on too much corn seed.Go
ahead and cut/drill the rivets. Then you can clean
the bearings and reassemble with small bolts.be sure
to use 'locknuts'.

Well I got the hub off and the bearings were shot. Finding a 3/4 in bore that would fit the original hub was a bit of a problem, plus the disc were really in bad shape. So I bought new 13-1/2 disc with bearings. The 5/8 bore worked fine by using a 5/8 bolt and lock nut to adjust spin for the disc.
Thanks for the help
Now another question, will 309 dearborn seed plates, and seed knockers, work on my 309 ford.
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks
