Hesston 1014 pull behind swather 12 foot

Hopefully this is a simple question, but I can't seem to find any specs on this pull behind.

What HP do I need from the tractor PTO to pull and run this type of machine. Also, does this machine have some sort of reservoir for the Hydraulic Oil that the PTO runs, or does it use the tractors? Sorry for the simple questions

Thanks
Tony

The tounge is the oil reservoir-holds around 30 gallons.45 horse will handle it(I have pulled one with a Super M)what tractor do you have?the biggest issue is the fact you need two remotes(one for swing and one for raising header)And,most importantly-Buy a book! before you go any further, your local dealer can get you one for around 30 bucks.I still have the book I bought for mine(sold/junked the machine 10 years ago)Good Luck,Steve

I have an old Farmall 450 Gas. I currently only have one extra set of hydraulic lines going to the back. I do have a second lever that was never used, so I guess I could just hook lines up to it and should be fine, just never needed them before.

Thanks for the info. And YES I truly believe in getting an owners manual once a machine if acquired. Just was looking to see if my older tractor would at least be powerful enough to run the thing.

Thank You again for your help

Tony

Sorry one more thing.

OK again sorry for the apparently simple questions.

You mentioned for swing and raising the header. So I would assume that these 2 things would use the Tractor hydraulic pump??

Then what is the oil reservoir on the swather for then? running all the other moving parts in it, like sickle, augers and such?

Thanks
Tony

Yes,there's a hydraulic pump that attaches to your tractor PTO and that runs a hydraulic motor to run all of the mechanical parts.

1400 Hesston hydra-swing's a good mower. Our covering some different up'n'down terrains and road conditions we use 90HP classed tractors over 4 TWP's. A 4010 JD for light duty, any one of a numbered 1850 Oliver's. We like the heavier tractors as it beats the tail waging the dog.
Everything else been written is on. Get a manual.

Tony, does your 450 have a wide front?if not,it needs one(cut a round and you will see why). From your previeouse post makes me wonder if the pto pump is there? If it is not there, dont buy it!

Thanks for all the comments.

I have not seen the swather yet, but wanted to get a little info on it first and foremost. I am assuming it has all the parts, but I didn't know anthing about what is needed from my tractor to run with it.

Yes my tractor does have a wide front. I would be only swathing about 15 acres of laser leveled ground of Alfalfa. It is corregated, so the 2 circles around the pasture might be a little bumpy, just like it is on my only MF44 windrower (currently out of order, so that's why I am looking) The persone is asking 800.00 for it. Says it needs some welding, not quite sure what that means about the condition, I will try and go see it in the next few days.

Thanks for all the info.

Tony

It sure would be nice if you could see it cut before you buy it. If the pump or motor is weak it will be some $$ to have rebuilt. The welding is probably the main frame cracking on the right side. No big deal just take the time to plate and repair it right and it won't ever give you trouble again. I have the 1014+2 14 foot wide I bought for $400. I have about $2400 in it after rebuilding it, but it will be all the swather I ever need going forward. I pull it with an 856 and I bet the 450 would pull it but in heavier hay the 45 horses may not be enough. On the 12 foot model your looking at I'll bet the 450 will be just right.
You may find that only 2 rounds on the opening doesn't give you enough room on the ends to turn when going back and forth. I have to cut 4 rounds before going back and forth to have enough space to turn on the ends comfortably.

And be sure you run the draw bar extension pulling it. It has to be on there for the pump hose to bend correctly. My 856 has a fast hitch and it works on there just fine. I'm guessing your 450 has the fast hitch. I can take pictures of the hookup on the fast hitch cross bar with the extension if you would like to see it.

Tony,

Did you buy that machine? I was just looking at it today on craigs list. (I am also here in Idaho)
