Disk Harrow help

Hey gang, I've got an IH model 9 10' disk I picked up a few years ago (before scrap started going nuts). It's been sitting in the weeds alongside dad's hog barn and he told me to either fix it up or he's going to take the torch to it. Anybody got a good source for blades for this disk? Does anybody have one sitting in the weeds that wouldn't mind parting with to help out? Thanks for your help guys!

A model number would be helpful or if that is not possible remove a blade to assess the opening for size where the axle (arbor) bolt goes through. Case IH really is not bad on cost of replacement blades or you could go through Shoup Mfg. who has a website and does mail catalogs out.

Thanks, for the suggestion. I did bring a disk into the local Case IH dealer, but they wanted a pretty good chunk of change for it. I was hoping to find a cheaper alternative. Probably wind up finding one somebody's got and strip it for the parts and blades. Only problem is finding one... anybody...?

It's a model 9. Not sure if it's an A or B. Don't have ready access to the blades to get dimensions of the blade. I'm down in Macomb, IL and the disk is up at the family farm in Oregon, IL. I'm going to go home this weekend and grab a blade and take some measurements. I was also thinking of getting in touch with a junk yard and see if they've got any that come in I could rob some pieces off of. Hate to say I'm desperate, but I really don't want dad to chop the darn thing up.

agri supply carries a lot of disc parts,i have a old ih thats fairly complete, but you could buy all new parts for what you could get this one at your place for.the trouble with discs are what wears first on your wears first on everyone elses also,so unless you have one thats has bent axles or something its not really worth buying a old one for parts.generally if you find one with parts worth using its a better disc than what your trying to rebuild to start with.most guys who rebuild one for a display wants new parts, but if your buying one to use its generally cheaper around here to buy a better disc.especially those old drag type discs, they are simply too hard to get from one field to another unless you have dirt roads to move them on.if its a wheel lift disc it would be different of course.

Thanks for the advice. I would go with an old wheel disk, but my H is pretty much stripped down. No lights, no hydraulics, and no PTO. So obviously my options are limited. The only parts I really need are one section where the rear gang ties up to the front gang. The loop broke a long time ago and is held together with a log chain. I"d also like to piece together the scrapers as mine has one bent rod. And I"m missing the square nut that holds the blades on the axle. I had it, but misplaced it in 2 years of shuffling around.

I think you can go right down to your CaseIH dealer and he will take them off the shelf. That's what I did about 5 years ago.

I have seen the loop replaced by heating and bending a bolt into a loop and a bracket attached to the other end.

I dont have a camera to get a picture of this old one,but i think i know what you need.I'll see what this one looks like, but it been dragged around probably 5000 miles after it was wore smooth out.on your scrapers, are they rope trip?has a lever to move them over against discs and then a lever with a rope and spring setup to help scrape mud?scrapers on this one is in farly good shape as i recall, dont have to worry much about mud in western okla,so they probably never were used much!LOL

I did a google search for disc blades and found a better price in southern Ohio. I just bought angle iron and built new frame parts to replace the bad ones. I also made the nuts to go on the axles.

Looks great! I'm hoping to get mine to that shape. If you could forward me that link to the cheaper disc blades, I'd really appreciate it.

Yeah, you're on the right track. I could use more scrapers to replace some of the bad ones. Along with the springs. And the shaft. Well hell, why not pull the whole works off and I could use it definitely. If you weren't so far, I'd say I'd take the whole darn thing, but shipping some parts wouldn't be so bad, just heavy. Let me know what you find! Thanks a ton!

Another question guys,
The disc's got flat back blades on it. Can they be readily interchanged for a normal disc with a 1 1/4" square hole?
