I have hay sticking in end of cutting bar away from tractor. I did notice the rock guard part of it was broken on top. That could be part of it but in a previous forum someone mentioned a bar on outside that may have been broken off. Mine does not have this. Tell me more about this bar or I am open to other suggestions. I had no problems in 2nd cutting alfalfa but moved to thick 1st cutting grass and fought it all the way through.

My 488 is having the same problem in heavy hay. There is a thing called a wear plate that mine was missing out on the end of the sheet meatl. It is about 6 in long and is a channel that covers the point ot the last gaurd. Also the plastic piece needs to be out there also. I am also replacing the tine teeth on that end of the bar that pulls the hay in. I have not had a chance to go and try it out yet as we are having rain every few days.

Where does the plastic piece go?

I have that special 2 point cutter. There is a homemade rubber guard over the end to keep hay from being dragged in. I am way behind this year and wanted to at least get finished with this field so I fought it. I will look closely at the guards and cutters this weekend and replace if needed. I just wondered if there is anything else I was overlooking.

Yep,

Where-ever the hay is "sticking", there is something wrong with the cutter bar, sickle, guards, etc. in that area.

Do you have the special end section on it? There should be one with two points instead of one.

Sounds like you need a new guard on the end. I would put a new one next to it also.
