Caster wheel #5 JD mower

Does anyone have any info as to what size of pneumatic tire goes with a #5 JD sickle mower. Where can a person purchase a pneumatic tire that fits.

I had a rotted tire on my #5 mower several years ago. It takes a 9 inch tire and I don"t think they are made anymore. After a lot of looking and no luck, I started looking in hedgerows and open barn doors. I found two on an old hay rake that a gentelman had. I put a 8 inch tube in it and that worked.Good luck Ed

They use a 9" tire. In 1955 there was also for just 1 year of production, a 8" cast wheel offered that you can put a WHEEL BARROW tire on, as for the 9" they should be avail. also if you like, ME MILLER TIRE in WAUSEON OHIO , # 800-621-1955-EXT. 4, has them 400-9 4 ply for $40.00,$15.00 for the TUB. hope this helps, now for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$

I have a new 4.00 X 9.00 tire and tube which I bought for a hay rake restoration but later found the correct 8" two piece bolt together wheel halves and no longer have a need for it. I sold one a year or so ago to a person on the east coast for the same use and will sell this one if you can use it for $30.00 plus shipping for the new unmounted tire and a new tube if wanted. Is this an implement tire or a trailer type tire and what ply is each.What is your location so we can get approx shipping charges? We are located in Texas?

The tire is labeled as a Carlisle 4.00 - 9. SL Farm Service made in USA 4 ply rating tire with maximum inflation of 44 PSI and a maximum speed rating of 25 MPH. The tread design is like most implement tires with 4 straight grooves and no traction lugs. Tire is almost 17" in diameter uninflated and laying flat and 4" thick and weighs about 6 pounds with the tube. Hope this helps, Hal.
