on my 472 haybine on the right side under the foldup door there is a chain thats driven off the top roller and goes around the larger gear that runs the big belt that turns the reel. anyway the chain is flopping and comes off every now and then. im gona get a new chain but it sure looks like there should be some adjustments to tighten up the chain but i cant figure it out. can anyone help me?

There should be a 7/8 nut on the end of the reel shaft. In front of that is a tension adjust screw not unlike a chain saw. Loosen the nut, take a few clockwise turns on the adjust rod. Retighten the shaft nut. STAND on the wrench!
You might have to take a turn or two on the roller spacing adjustment after doing this.

thanks Gordon very much let me see if i understand you right your saying that the deal where the belt and the chain is on a short shaft #7 ( im looking at the new holland parts online) has some type of adjustment? or am i off in left field somewhere :(

I disagree with GordoSD on this. The adjustment he is telling you about will tighten the chain BUT it will them throw the roll spacing out. That adjustment is to center the rolls with each other. That reel drive China just needs to be replaced. If you put a new chain on it will be tight again. All of the NH haybines I have ever worked on where this way.

Had the same problem / same machine . Put a new NH chain on it and your problem will be solved . Go to NH and get the right chain .

thanks everyone i bought diamond brand made in the usa chain today the thing is if you look at the new holland site it says local procurement fixin to pull it under the shade tree and see what i can do to it

My 472 threw this chain so much I damaged that main sprocket. If you go underneath the rear of the machine where the grass is thrown out of the rolls look into the area that would be directly behind the sprocket assembly. Loosen those bolts and the shaft turns in a oblong orbit the tighten your chain here.
