3 PT POLE BOOM

I am thinking about getting a 3 point hitch pole boom and was wondering,...."what all could I do with such an implement?"

Detmurds,

I have about half a dozen used telephone poles in my yard that the power company dropped off for me. I've been cutting the poles to eight foot lengths and then using them for gate posts and end posts on fence lines. I can't lift the posts by hand, they're too heavy for me.

I drag them to the holes using my boom pole and a chain, then I lift the end of the fence post and position it into the hole. Back the tractor up a little bit and the post goes right down into the hole.

I have in the past used a boom pole to pull an engine out of a van and replace it with another engine. Probably not too smart, but it's what I did.

Before I had a loader I had a boom pole and I used it for anything the tractor would lift. Motors, cars, rearends, posts, trees, etc. the limit is how strong of a pole you get and the lift capacity of your tractor. Remember that the rate lift capacity on tractors is at two feet behind the lift links. A boom sticks out a lot further. So you will lift less.

COOL! Those are the kind of things I was thinking of doing! I have found that they are probably the most economical implement available and I now find myself wanting one to add to the other implement that I have which is the back blade. (8 ft)

Some have pulled a harrow section, and run a chain from the middle of the harrow section up to the loop on the pole. You can then raise the 3pt, and pick up the harrow for driving to somewhere else. Lower 3pt, and start harrowing again.

To really use a boom pole, get a hyd top link, costs about what the boom pole does, but wow, lets you raise & lower the boom pole a lot more.

I don't have a loader (yet) so I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a boom pole. It is the handiest 3 pt. implement I own.
I bought this King Kutter about 8 years ago for $59 at Fleet Farm.
Also as Paul says, put a hydraulic top link on your tractor. Makes the pole much more effective.

Hey, thanks for sharing the picture!

Can one be used to pull out small diameter trees from the ground? I am guessing it all depends on the strength of one's boom, and keeping the tractor's front end on the ground.

It would not work well for pulling stumps. You want to chain up close to your lift arms. I would buy an 11 hole drawbar for that. Not a cheap one from Harbor Fright either. You'll just bend it.

Here's one I built about 35 or 40 years ago; seldom use it because a front-end loader is easier to use and will lift considerably more weight. Have used it on a 180 hp tractor with no problems. Have never understood the concept of pulling up trees with a wheeled tractor, but I've only been driving the damn things for 58 years.

As for pulling up trees, I am talking about trees that might be 5 inches in diameter at the most. It wouldn't even be a stump since I would like to just pull them out.

Skinning animals would be perfect!

And another great picture,...thank you.
