Any pointers out there on how to adjust your tedder tine angle when tedding? How far is too far and what does the perfect adjustment look like?

Tine angle, I kick mine back slightly, I get less breakage but it doesn't pick up as well.

Rotor angle, I keep about 1-2" of clearance, my fields are rough.

On good going, I set mine so that my toe will just fit under the tines, on rougher ground I raise it to about twice as much. If you lower it enough to pick up everything you will be leveling the ground as well as turning hay. The instruction manual for my Grimm tedder says that if you are breaking the inner tines, you are set too low, if you are breaking the outer tines, you are traveling too fast.

When we tedder, we usually set it so that the tines BARELY miss the ground, maybe by a half inch or a little more. Of course, if you have a tractor that has an adjustable height drawbar, like a Farmall 140, you can always make a pass and raise the lift until the tines don't toss up dirt. If there are hilly fields, you may need a bit more clearance. If you have enough ground speed, I would say 4.5-5 miles per hour minimum, the tines should be able to brush the ground without breaking.

I set mine down to where I can just get a tine to clear over my finger under it. Works for me.

Low enough to pick up pretty much all of the hay without beating the tines on the ground.

ideally you want to set the tines to just pick up the hay and fluff it backwards. too much of an angle and i think you will be picking up dirt and rocks, at least thats what my tedder does if its set too steep.
