The wheel lift on this drill is not working right, it seems to be sticking causing the drills to go up and down, I am going to lube every thing up real good according to the book, is their any thing else that I should do to it?

Like the others have stated a good cleaning might just be a that it needs. When putting it back together lightly grease it. We also would spray diesel mixed with 30w oil as the lube on the cams/linkage. This was also what we used on the marker linkage on the 494 corn planters. You need a light lube that will cut the dust.

I agree on cleaning the dried grease out is probably required. The handle roller may not be latching back into the notched area to disengage lift. Is spring still intact on the handle(S919M @ $9.99)? There's also a spring on the inside called the throw-out spring(S918M @ $4.05).
It's amazing JD still offers these springs for a grain drill made in the 40's

Take apart and clean-clean-clean and get 100% of the old dirt-50 year old grease out so everything is nice and clean and make sure the small spring is not broken and reasemble with just enough grease to lube the parts without any extra. Over greasing will cause you more problems.
