Can someone ID this planter for me? I picked it up at auction for $230 and will use it for sweet corn. It has the adapter for JD plates and presently has a h1255 iron corn plate but I want to find a better match for sweet corm. Seems to be in fair condition and everything is intact although worn. The packed wheel outside bearings are shot but should be no big deal on that. Anyone that can suggest good JD "B" plate for sweet corn I would appreciate it. Bill

The tail wheel controls your depth, and the frame acts as a lever ultimately pushing against your top link. You adjust depth by moving the big hair pin just forward of the wheel up or down on that perforated strap. Works better than you would think.

Definitely an AC, unit frames, brackets, press wheels are same as some of the late air planters we have had here. They used flat chain on all the planters I have seen right up till Deutz.

Probably a 4 or 6 row someone cut up.

I think H1255 is a soybean plate from John Deere. Might want to find some different plates.

Probably have better luck axing on the A-C board; been too long since I fooled with the things..... .71, 72, 73, 74 units, etc; can't remember when they switched to roller chains. I'll bet the local seed dealer or CO-OP has a box of the old plastic plates stuck back in a corner.

Are you sure that is an AC planter? It doesn't look like any planters in my AC book.

It is a cut up 4 or 6 row planter to make a 2 row.
That seems to be the a popular thing to do for gardens and food plot planters. It has the JD plate adapter so it should be easy to find plates. Whoever sprayed AC orange did a quick job right over dirt, rust, grease, etc. It should be fine for sweet corn but without gauge wheels I"m a little concerned about depth control. Bill
