Can anyone recommend a good, fairly cheap round baler-- one that would match well with an Oliver 1600? I've been reading the older posts on round balers but thought I might try to get some fresh advice--

Gehl 1460,1465,1470 4x5. I think the 5x6 equivelent years would be 18xx. Be sure it's not the older 1400,1500,1450,they had a table belt instead of a drum in the bottom. Probably gonna be in bad shape by now.

The older vermeers seem to make a fairly decent bale although not as tight as the newer ones. Neighbor had one of those NH chain balers. Did a fairly decent job but was really a pain when something went wrong. He ran it with a 1655. Seemed to have the best luck running in 2nd gear. Seen alot of the older vermeers sell for under 2k. Buy the best baler you can possibly afford. I looked at alot of cheaper balers, but finally took the plunge and spent 15k on a new vermeer 554xl in 02. Have never been sorry.

The NH 850 chain rollers are pretty inexpensive here $1000-$1500. If maintained well, they are dummy proof in their operation. Ken Sweet
