John Deere 40 Loader - what is its worth??

I am going to be selling a JD 40 loader for the JD 415, 425, 445, & 455 series lawn tractors off of my grandfather's old mower. It was bought around 1999-2001 (he can't remember or find the receipt). It was only used to carry mulch around their house each spring and kept inside all of its life so it is in very good condition. Soooo, I am just wondering what I should ask for it when I go to sell it; I've seen other's priced around $800-1,500. Is this a reasonable price? Thanks for the help,

Dane

You might get $1500. I would start there and think hard about any close offers. The problem with that loader is that its rated lift capacity is about #250. I sold a new one on a JD455 to a good friend. He had the 60" mower deck. He broke the belt on the mower deck. He pulled the deck off and was going to load it into his pickup truck to bring in for repairs. The JD 40 loader would not pick it up.

I am a big guy, 280 lbs. We used to play around in the store with one on a JD445. If I stood on the front lip of the bucket it would not pick me up or even roll the bucket back. They beat a scoop shovel by just a little.

I am looking for a deere 40 loader for my 455. Where are you located? There are a few special attachments that must go with it. A hydrolic lockout and weight bucket for the back. I can give you $1500 for it if it is in good working order.
