Cutting down 6 row toolbar

I recently purchased this dual toolbar/Deere 71 flex planter setup.

I was looking for a 4 row but found this instead. Problem is all of my gates are 15' 5" and this toolbar is 19'4".

I'm going to have to cut it down. Is there a standard width for a 4 row toolbar? I'd like to end up with a two row (for the smaller tractors) and a 4 row for Farmall 656. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

What row widths are you wanting to run? Sounds like it is set for 6 40" rows now or could be for 8 30" rows. Standard width of 4 30" rows is 10', 4 40" is 13' 4" and 6 rows @ 30" is 15' so a 6 row should fit thru your gates. Openers should not take more width on outside of row than 1/2 the width of a 30" row or even less. So 6 rows set on 30" should go thru a 15' 6" gate opening

So, you want to cut off on end and make two
carriers? Is the hitch welded in the center? And you
only have one hitch. I would either cut off both
ends to whatever suited me for a 4 row or else leave
it 6 row and make the gates wider. Skip the two row
idea. If you want a garden planter there are always
small tool bars kicking around. You could even build
a couple one rows and sell one. Or you might use the
extra units for parts.

Will the 2 transport or gage wheels move inward? that was my first question, along with taking off the end brackets.

Saving a piece for a 2 row planter will be difficult. What row width are you planting?

That is important. Had someone in here who bought a new planter, planted corn- and his cultivator and tractor were the wrong width....and I am hoping he didnt have a 2 or 3 row picker set for his old width

Had an IH toolbar that I found again last month while moving a rotted trailer.. we were going to buy a relatives Allis Chalmer C and build a 2 row Cox corn planter, but my dad got sick... he got better, but lost interest...

The IH 2 row toolbar is 63 inches

Thank you for all of the replies. I don't know what I might all want to plant in the future so wanted to make sure I didn't limit myself by making it to narrow. Sounds like max normal row width is 40" and min is around 30"?

Redoing the gates isn't feasible. For now the planter will mostly be used for vetch, peas and other winter pasture cover crops (and experimenting with some spring corn for forage and LabLab in summer). I have a couple of old AllCrop combines so someday I'd like to mess around with soybeans and sunflowers. If a one or two row corn picker ever showed up close that would probably follow me home.

Crossing a river at the back of the property will never be feasible with the Farmall 656 so I do want to try and use one of the ends to make a two row toolbar so I could plant forage on the other side of the river. Like the 656 the drain grill will never be going across the river. The guage wheels are movable and recentering the lift apparatus to one side or the other won't take that long. Making a new hitch for the two row unit would be fun.

My question now is how would you plant the crops that you are talking about that are only planted with a grain drill with a corn planter that is corn and beans only unless it has the special cotton boxes? And if you can't get a drill across the river or a 4 row planter you will never get one of those combines across either.

Sorry, I had two conversations going. Yes, on the other side of the river I'll be limited to only planting crops/seed the flex 71 units can handle and whatever is planted will have to be eaten in place. If it isn't a forage the cows like (or can't get to because of flooding) the deer, dove, turkey, etc will benefit. There is currently no way to get a baler (or combine) over there.
