Bean Spray Rig (Kohler Motor)

As I was checking over my spray rig so I could hammer some insects around my house with Talstar I noticed there was a LOT of gasoline in my Kohler motor where presumably oil is supposed to be going. Something is obviously either not right or I am missing some detail about this motor. It's a Kohler model #k181t. Any input about this guys?

Last year had a similar problem with an 8 hp BS on a 33 in lawn mower. Filled the gas tank after mowing and four days later it was all in the crankcase. The carburator float needle valve is sticking or has deteriorated. Installed a shutoff in the gas supply line after rebuilding the carb so it will not happen again.

Okay I see what happened then. I have a shut off so I'll shut that off while I'm not using the pump. Should I drain it and refill with oil?

My engine was "locked", so initially had to remove the spark plug and hand crank. Then I drained mine and poured a little more in to get the bottom contaiminated stuff out. Re-filled it with oil and ran it for several minutes without load and drained again. Probably wasted a couple qts of oil, but I consider it cheap insurance.

Well better safe then sorry. I was looking these motors up on the Kohler website and they go for a little over a grand. I think I'll be draining all the gas out of mine and filling it with SAE30 weight oil tomorrow before I do anything with it.

Also, can anyone tell me how many gallons this tank can possibly hold? No I cannot offer any numbers for the tank itself. However I was hoping some experienced guys out there could give me an educated guess based on purely looking at this thing.
