Can anyone tell me about my hay elevator

Hi all,

Cleaning out our old barn and we came across a hay elevator. It's an electric motor, regular 3 prong plug (don't know if most are this way, never been up close to one). 18' long, 2' wide. The belt isn't on it but when I plug the motor in, it runs fine (didn't want to run it this way long and risk burning it out - if that's possible). "Teeth" and chain all look fine. Metal is all really sturdy (and I found it to be heavier than I thought when we were moving it) and it's not banged up or anything. It's round tubing if that helps. Has been kept inside all its life. Anyway to tell what brand from the picture? Or someplace I can look on it? I'm going to sell it, can someone tell me what it's worth? Is $100 asking too much?

thanks in advance!

No body ever really pays attention to what brand those elevators are, they're just pipe elevators. Most of them that I've seen you can interchange the sections from one brand to another. I would think $100 is fair. Look in the farm paper and see what someone is listing theirs for. Can't help you on price, but we've got 2 pipe elevators ourselves.

Holly moly, really?? Maybe I'll post it for $250 or $300 and see what happens. I'm going to put it on the classifieds here and also some local email group sites. Unfortunately, since my dad passed away 2 years ago, we don't subscribe to Lancaster Farming anymore.

'Here' the ones a little longer on wheels go for right about $400.

A shorter one like this without wheels, you can ask $200. Sometimes get 1/2 that, sometimes might get the full $200. Not beat up, working motor, should help it pretty good.

You do know that it will sell for full price about a month before hay season starts, and no one will likely call this time of year? :) Farm stuff is seasonal, and if you want to make money, got to time the seasons.....

As mentioned, no one bothers with what brand it is.

Good to know, it's been in the barn this many years, no harm in it sitting there another 6 - 8 months I suppose.

In our area (western mass.), they sell at auction for between $200-$300. The horse people like those short ones for putting hay up in the garage! Put a nice coat of red paint on it, that will help to get your price.
but likee the man said, it"s a seasonal item. Do you have a "craigs list" for you r area on the computer? That sells stuff pretty well.

Yep, we have a craigslist and also a Tag Sale site (2 actually) that I'll post it to.

Paid $100 for mine a couple three years back. Like new condition, little rust. Been a great investment. Mine is a "Little Giant."

It looks like the old NewHolland we used to have, again, not that the name matters much.
100 bucks sounds about right.

(quoted from post at 23:25:30 11/16/09) Don't bother advertising it here - all you will get is replies from scammers.

I can send you a check for $1000.00. You cash it and send me the elevator and $500 and we are even. Deal?

In Maine, that elevetor would bring between $400 and $600. Working used elevators are hard to find. The new ones with a motor are over $1200.

watson, i would think that skeleton elevator would probably bring $125-175 without too much trouble. you can always come down if the price is too high. there were lots of companies that made that style elevator. we used to have a cardinal, now have one with a john deere decal, neighbor has a new holland. chances are most came out of the same factory and were painted different colors depending on which dealer was selling it.
i had the pictures from your corn binder we dug out of the woods last summer, and the hard drive on the computer locked up before i figured out how to send them to you.

Looks better than mine when it came back from horse farmer who borrowed it.Bottom all smashed claimed he didn't know what happend,Later found out he backed over it with goose neck trailer.Makes you think gee thanks for the purple shaft!Scott

That"s a clean looking elevator. You"re giving it away at $100! Price out a new one before you sell it for $100.
