Hi, I have the oportunity to buy a John Deere 246 2 row corn planter at a local auction here in november.. I would like to buy it for deer food plot.. but im not sure if it would be a waste of money. Does anyone know if these were very good planter, how much would you expect to pay for one of these, im not sure of the condion, and is there a better alternative.. Thanks alot for ALL your help, and have a good day, Thanks

I bought a 246 planter about 3 years ago for use in planting my garden. The price will depend on the condition of the planter and all of its parts. I paid almost $800 for mine, but the fertilizer boxes were in great shape, and it came with original manuals and 12 sets of plates for it. I use mine every year to plant corn and beans and have been really happy with it.

Best 2 row planter out there that you can get parts for. The only planter acording to some that was better was a Blackhawk but they are not to be found anymore or parts for them. I hear of up to a thousand dollars for one now. Bought one new about when they first came out and used it for all corn & beans till got a 4 row planter.

my planter is set on a tool bar so you can adj your row width.
Two John Deere 25B units

Each year I get it out to plant my truck patch I have someone stop by and ask about buying it.

You may be surprised at the valve of these little planters. I would hate to price mine at $1000 because someone would pay that for one in really good conditon.

Just change plates as you would for from rounds to flats and small kernel or large kernel corn and then change your seed spacing as the same as you would for corn.
