Convert A/C Snap Couple To Three Point

Anybody know of an easy way to convert snap couple equipment to a three point. Looking at a 3 btm plow and a planter but don't want to perform brain surgery to make them work.

Thanks

Dean

There were several conversion kits available from places like Central Tractor and others. You might check with your local farm supply store and see if they have something.

AC also made an adapter, I think the AC adapter works best, it allows you to still use the traction booster function on the tractor. What tractor are you planning on using it on? I have one for sale, in central MD, if you are interested.

I know Allis made the parts to sell the plow frame either way. I don't know about the planter, but they probably did. The 3 point is simpler in my plow frame parts book.

Vito, My adapter is for a WD, WD-45, or D17. If you have a D-14, 15, or 19, I believe you could make it work. I have a picture that I pulled off of this site, it shows the adapter that is similar to mine, look under the right hand side lift arm piece, which is folded over a center "spreader" piece, where your toplink would attach. This adapter is for non powered 3 point implements, as designed. If you want to run a pto implement, you would have to have the under seat bracket, for your particular tractor. I have the bracket for a D-17, I think steiner sells them for other tractors. Here is the link to the picture: https://photos.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/gallery/iphoto_pic.cgi?pic=http;//photos.yesterdaystractors.com/gallery/iphotos/i2352.jpg&firstrec=32&lastrec=4

I seem to be reading your post different than everybody else. I am reading that you have Allis snap coupler implements and want to use them with a Ford type tractor, not Ford type implements that you want to use with an Allis tractor with snap coupler hitch. Many companys made to go from Ford type to AC but no body made to go the other way but some were home modified of the older AC equipment and AC realized finally that some had other type of tractors and started offering there equipment with both type of hitches. Best if you want to modify a AC snap coupler hitch to 3 point is get a parts book for the particular model and see in it if they ever offered the 3 point hitch parts for it, if they did then you could follow the design of the parts shown in the book to make them.

I'm sure there's someone who has three point equipment or wants the snap coupler equipment that will pay you and you can buy the three point stuff you want.

Sorry, just re-read the post, Leroy might have the right angle. I was assuming that you have a snap couple tractor, and want to adapt 3ph equipment to it, not the other way. As Gilda Radner used to say on SNL, nevermind!

When you look at switching something like that remember the the snap coupler has a point that it was designed to pull from. Not just any where you can weld something to. In my opinion the easiest way is to buy a three point.

Thanks for the opinions, Sid, I do believe you're right. Conversion of the plow would be a nightmare. It would be unlikely to draw correctly. I do think the planter is light enough that with care in fabrication to keep it all square I could get that to work. Now, if the price is right

But AC sold all their 50s and later plow frames with either a 3point or a snap coupler hitch, so they know they will pull right either way. There were AC parts to make the conversion. But there are plenty 3 point plows about and there are people in the market for complete snap coupler plows.
