Trailer torsion axle...coil spring action

I know this is not the proper forum but I hope someone has seen this axle before on some other farm type trailer. I bought an older horse trailer last weekend. Probably 20 years old, very light with a galvanized steel skin, so very little rust.

The axles are torsion style axles, no leaf springs, and the suspension works via a coil spring that wraps around the axle and supports the weight of the trailer.

The suspension seems to be working fine but if I ever break one I may be in for a difficult parts search.

Has anyone ever seen this type axle? What is its origin and reliability and where might I get parts?

Many thanks, Edd

Oh yea, if you have ever seen one of these trailers, what brand is it and any guess on its age? It is a 2 horse, straight load with a ramp and a very high rounded roof.

there is usually a tag on the axle tube, tells weight rating and manufacture, if not look on a brake drum for a name casted in it.

i know a few folks around here that converted their cattle trailers over to torsion units...havent heard anybody having problems and these trailers hold 15-20 head of cattle...we dont have the best county roads either.

I've seen these torsion spring suspentions.don't know the mfg. so a guess of Dexter ,and that is a guess, is the best I can do to help you out.

Just found out they are Linco or Linkco axles,
and were aparently used on Scotty camper trailers, and Ag water tanks and Nitrogen trailers (wagons). Apparenty the Co. is out of business. Probably no way to get parts except make them.
