I'm looking at a model 55 that needs bar bearings. Is this a complicated fix and how much are the bearings?

Yes the bearings from new holland are around $60 each BUT if your dealer is worth anything he has a line on aftermarket bearings. My dealer has the same bearings for $15 each and replacing the bearings isn't too bad but 2 people are required to do it.

My apologies to you all! I let my biased opinion get in the way of logic here! My BIASED position is that I wouldn't own ANOTHER roller bar rake if I could find a rotary rake for any price less than twice as much! I went from a NH 57 to a Kuhn GA 300 GM and never looked back!

that might be true you can buy a rake for 600..... ....but to me I would rather put the 600 into the rake I have instead of buying another and getting what I already got..... ....to me if I can put money into old equipment and still be WAY below what a new one costs then it is money well spent..... ....

If you need them all, I believe it would be 10 (gulp!) At $600.00 probably better to look for another rake! JMHO but a roller bar rake in good condition isn't worth any more than $600.00. HTH

Yes, one is entitled to his opinion. Could almost agree with a 55 not being worth more than $600. But I've seen many good 56's go for significantly much more than $600 and have never seen a good 256 under $1100.

Loosen the bolts holding the spiders and also loosen the bars opposite the one you are removing. Bearings are NH part # 86523991 and will probably run $60 per.

I had a 55 rake and had a bearing go bad. Struggled with it and finally took it to the dealer. Probably takes 2 people. You have to loosen the bolts that hold the spiders on so you can have some play, line things up and use a pry bar. Good luck.
